What is recruitment? How do I join a sorority?

Recruitment is the mutual selection process through which potential new members (PNMs) meet active members of sorority chapters. Over four days, PNMs will visit all five Panhellenic chapters and have the opportunity to find out what Greek Life is all about. As the days progress, both the chapters and the potential new members narrow down their selections. On the final day of Recruitment, after a mutual bid-matching process, PNMs may receive an invitation to join a chapter.

What is recruitment/sorority life like at Santa Clara?

There are 5 Panhellenic sororities: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Phi, Delta Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Kappa Kappa Gamma. Women who participate in Fall Formal Recruitment have the opportunity to visit and get to know women from each chapter. Recruitment is much more relaxed than the Recruitment process at other universities. We do not require any letters of recommendations -- just registration.

When is recruitment?

Formal Recruitment is held each fall at the beginning of the quarter.

Where/when can I sign up for recruitment?

Registration for Fall Formal Recruitment 2016 opens in July 2016.

What if I have class during Recruitment?

While we try to schedule Recruitment events in the evening on school nights, we understand that some women may have class conflicts. If you have a conflict, please email us. Additionally, chapters will be notified which PNMs have class conflicts.

How do you balance academics and sorority life?

Each chapter in addition to Panhellenic hold our members to high standards. All sorority women must meet a required GPA each quarter. You can also find numerous women with the same major in each chapter, which provides a good resource when you are looking for help in a class that someone else is in/has already taken, as well as general academic guidance.

What is the time commitment?
Participating in a Greek organization is like participating in any co-curricular activity; it requires a time investment. Students in the Greek Community have the opportunity for a well-rounded college experience that involves academic work and campus involvement, as well as social events. As they say, you get out of a sorority what you put in. You can choose your level of involvement, whether you decide to be a member or the President.

What kinds of philanthropy events are you involved in?

Each chapter usually holds one philanthropy event per quarter. Each chapter has their own philanthropy. Most philanthropy events involve the community, so chapter women and fraternity men often attend other chapter’s events.

What is the financial commitment/housing situation for Greek organizations?

The first quarter has a higher level of costs due to the one-time expenses and fees for new members. Average first year costs can range between $1.465-$2,175. This includes things such as the new member fee, initiation fee, and the purchase of the sorority badge.  Costs after the first year, on average, tend to be around $1,634. Santa Clara Panhellenic sororities offer various payment plan options to assist students in meeting these financial obligations. All the sororities have options to payannually, quarterly, or monthly depending on needs. Scholarships may be available within the individual chapters, but the likelihood of receiving a scholarship to cover the dues is very low. Make sure to ask questions during Formal Recruitment in order to understand the full costs associated.

Where are the chapter houses located?
